Fred Simeone, farewell during “his” 24 Hours

Photo credit: Museo Alfa Romeo, Wheelsage

As fate would have it, Fred Simeone left us during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In many ways, his passing was almost a tribute to the importance he gave to endurance race cars and the exploits of their drivers during his life as a collector, as well as a renowned scientist. Simeone leaves a deep void but, with a gesture worthy of a person of such immense generosity, he also leaves his magnificent collection to the world at large, which includes many of the cars that raced at Le Mans. In fact, knowing that this day would inevitably arrive, he donated his entire collection to the Foundation that preserves them in the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia.

A profoundly significant gesture when you consider the immense value of that heritage.

Thank you, Fred. TCCT will always be with you and will always remember you in pole position of The Key’s ranking of the world’s top 100 collectors, a title you conquered two years ago.
